How do I book an appointment for my child?

Once we receive your referral directly from your referring doctor, the reception team will call you to arrange an appointment for your child. If you have any questions please feel free to call our reception team for assistance.

Is there patient parking at HVP?

For your convenience, parking is available at the Woolworths car park, located just 200 meters from our practice. This car park offers ample spaces and is a short walk away, making it an easy option for families visiting our clinic. Please allow a few extra minutes for parking and walking to your appointment. If you're using public transport, there is a bus stop directly opposite our practice, as well as another located out the front of the Woolworths complex. If you need assistance or have any questions about accessibility, feel free to contact our reception team.

Is there accessibility for wheelchair access?

Yes, our practice is fully accessible for wheelchair users. There is a lift located on the first floor of the Newcastle Medical Hub, ensuring easy access to our facilities. If you have any specific requirements, please let us know in advance so we can assist you accordingly.

Do I need a referral to see a Doctor at HVP?

Yes, you will need a referral from a GP to see a paediatrician at HVP. A valid referral ensures that you receive the appropriate care and allows you to claim Medicare rebates where applicable.

A referral letter from your General Practitioner will remain valid for 12 months from the date of your first appointment.

A referral letter from your specialist will remain valid for 3 months from the date of your first appointment.

What are the Fees & Payments to see a Paediatricain at HVP?

We require full payment on the day of appointment. A valid referral is required for the medicare rebate to be processed. Once the full payment has been made, Medicare will then issue the rebate, typically deposited into your nominated bank account within 1-2 business days. Please note, Medicare does not permit us to charge only the gap fee. Every family can expect to be out of pocket after the medicare rebate.

EFTPOS, Mastercard and Visa are all accepted.

Do I need to pay for my consultation at the time of my appointment?

Yes, a deposit of $100 is required at the time of booking your appointment, with the remainder of the fee payable on the day of your consultation.

Will my health insurance cover my consultation?

Health insurance does not cover paediatric specialist appointments. Please note that Medicare rebates are separate from private health insurance and may be applicable if you have a valid referral.

Do you see patients that do not have private health insurance?

Yes, we see patients regardless of whether they have private health insurance. Medicare rebates may apply if you have a valid referral from your GP. For patients without private health insurance, the full consultation fee is still applicable, and Medicare may cover part of the cost, depending on your eligibility. 

How can I provide feedback?

We welcome and encourage you to provide feedback on your experience with us or to disclose a complaint. All feedback and complaints are taken seriously and are handled in a confidential and professional manner. We request that any written complaints are addressed to our directors Dr Eric Mills and Dr Kate Tenney. They can be sent by mail or email. We will respond as soon as possible.
