Newcastle Paediatrician Dr Kate Tenney is a children’s doctor at Hunter Valley Paediatrics

Paediatric Dietitian

Lisa is an accredited practicing dietitian (APD) with over 14 years of clinical experience. Lisa specialises in, and is passionate about the health and wellbeing of children and families. Growing up in a large family in rural New South Wales, she learned early on the importance of community and connection. Since relocating locally in 2014, she has embraced the opportunity to become a part of this wonderful community.

Lisa is trained in several paediatric feeding therapy modalities such as SOS approach to feeding, Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility and approaches all paediatric and family based therapies through a Responsive Feeding lens.

As an APD Lisa can also help families optimise their child’s health outcomes through medical nutrition therapy (MNT); an evidence-based approach to help manage and treat specific health conditions through personalised nutrition care. MNT goes beyond general dietary advice and involves structured, therapeutic interventions.

Lisa has a warm and caring manner and with a young family herself, knows all too well how busy life can get. Lisa loves the challenge of tailoring nutrition to the unique needs of each client or family in a practical manner. Lisa aims to help you form a positive relationship with food by reducing stress from conflicting food rules and social media advice.

Why did you want to become a kids' doctor instead of a doctor for grown-ups?

I have always loved working with children, in fact, I was a gymnastics coach for 11 years and I have a degree in primary teaching.

What is your favourite dinosaur?

Brontosaurus. They are like gentle giants.

What do you do when you’re not being a doctor?

I love spending time with my husband, my two children and our dog Dougie. We spend a lot of time at the beach, parks and our local cafe.

If you could pick any superpower what would it be?

Super strength. I think being super strong would often come in handy.
